News : UniKL MICET’s Sustainability Awareness Day 2012

Sustainability Awareness Day, which was held on January 5, was the first major event of UniKL MICET for 2012. It was held with the aim of becoming the initial move towards promoting and implementing sustainability in various aspects, physically, environmentally, and even spiritually. The event started with the Dean's Annual Address in which he envisioned UniKL MICET becoming the lead campus in implementing Green Technology. He also highlighted the strength and achievement of the campus in 2011 in his speech.

To increase UniKL MICET's staff awareness, Prof. Sr. Dato' Dr Kamarudin Mohd Nor from UniKL Business School, a well-known figure in sustainability was invited to give a speech on ‘Sustainability, Green Technology and Green Campus'. In his speech, he drew the audience's attention to the impact on earth and our life if we do not go green and also how a campus could actually go green. According to Prof. Sr. Dato' Dr Kamarudin, the least that a campus could do is to encourage its students to plant trees, a suggestion that will be taken up by UniKL MICET along with water harvesting project.

In the afternoon, a motivational speaker, Dr. Azhar Yaakub from Daraini Management Academy, was invited to give a speech entitled ‘Pelanggaran Spiritual Disorder: Cabaran Terbesar UniKL 2012'. In today's world, one of the biggest challenges for youth is spiritual disorder. When youth do not have spiritual balance, they could easily be corrupted by various social ills. Thus, this motivational speech was given to instil the awareness to academicians as well as non-academicians that it is their responsibility too to guide UniKL MICET students to become wholesome individuals.
