News : Strengthening Bilateral Ties with Thailand

Universiti Kuala Lumpur was honoured to receive a courtesy call from His Excellency Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong, Secretary General Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre of Thailand with 20 delegates to its City Campus in Kuala Lumpur on January 10, 2013.
During the visit, HE Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong said, "the visit aims to promote education among youth of Southern Thailand in particular and Malaysia. The visit to Universiti Kuala Lumpur, a highly reputable higher education institution in Malaysia is very important". He added, "as a leading education institution in engineering technology and entrepreneurship in Malaysia, we welcome suggestions from UniKL to further develop education in Southern Thailand". Earlier, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Azemi Mohd Noor, Deputy President (Academic & Technology), UniKL in his welcoming speech said, "at present, UniKL has active collaborations with several partners in Southern Thailand which allow UniKL to contribute through its educational expertise. We certainly look forward in strengthening our ties with Southern Thailand and exploring more potential areas where UniKL is able to play its role significantly".
For the record, UniKL had a remarkable history with Southern Thailand. In 2008, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) designed a certificate programme to train 40 young Thais to become Assistant Nurses in its campus in Ipoh, Perak. Upon completion of the one year programme, the youths were awarded a certificate that qualifies them as Assistant Nurses. This programme was an effort spearheaded by TASK FORCE 2010 (Malaysia) together with its counterpart, TASK FORCE 960 (Thailand).

Other UniKL management members welcoming the delegates were Haji Rosly Ahmad, General Manager of Corporate Communication Division, Prof. Dr. Sulaiman Sajilan, Dean of UniKL Business School and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jamel Othman, Director of UniKL International Office.
HE Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong and his delegates were part of the delegation of Thailand Deputy Prime Minister His Excellency Dr. Chalerm Yoobamrung for a 3 day official visit to Malaysia.
