News : UniKL Students appreciate BB1M

Students of Malaysian Institute of Information Technology, UniKL City Campus (MIIT, UniKL City Campus) were all smiles upon receiving 1Malaysia Book Voucher (BB1M) presented by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, YB Senator Dato' Dr. Mashitah Ibrahim in a ceremony held at UniKL City Campus on February 21, 2013. These 180 students from the total of 2,459 students of MIIT, UniKL City Campus who are eligible for BB1M, received the RM 250 voucher which valid until May 2013.
Organised by MIIT, UniKL City Campus, this event was a symbolic tribute to appreciate the initiative of BB1M by the government in helping students' financial burden.
Dean of MIIT, UniKL City Campus, Prof. Dr. Roslan Ismail receiving the BB1M voucher from YB Senator Dato' Dr. Mashitah Ibrahim in the presence of UniKL President/CEO, Prof. Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su'ud and Deputy Dean MIIT, UniKL City Campus, Dr. Zalizah Awang Long.
"BB1M is one of the many initiatives taken by the government to ease the burden of students. This is a proof of the government's placing high emphasis in preparing the younger generations to spearhead the nation's future. The government feels that there is a need to invest in the younger generation in such a way that will build their character as a knowledgeable leader", said YB Senator Dato' Dr. Mashitah in her speech. She also added that students must think outside the box and find ways to give back and contribute to the nation in any means that they can.
Nurina Afifah Khairi, 19, who is a Diploma student of MIIT, UniKL City Campus expressed her appreciation towards the initiative, "At least now I can buy reference books that were previously unaffordable to me and improve in my studies."
Also speaking at the ceremony were Dean of MIIT, UniKL City Campus, Prof. Dr. Roslan Ismail who encouraged students to be more active in University Social Responsibility(USR) programmes and utilise every opportunity to contribute to the nation. "MIIT has organised many USR programmes local and internationally. With these programmes, our graduates are not only academically excellent, but also possess a good character and personality." he said.
Also present at the ceremony were UniKL President/CEO, Prof. Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su'ud, MIIT, UniKL City Campus Deputy Dean, Dr. Zalizah Awang Long and distinguished guests from MARA.
