News : An Nyeong Ha Sey Yo ! Universiti Kuala Lumpur hosts the 2015 Korean Speech Competition

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 October – Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) hosted the 10th Korean Speech competition in collaboration with the Korean Embassy on 31 October 2015. The annual event is organised by the Korean Embassy, with the first held in 2005. Besides promoting the Korean culture and language among non-native speakers, this competition is seen as a platform for students to showcase their talent and ability in conversing in the Korean language.
 
In total, the competition saw 130 entries with only 30 being shortlisted for the final held on the 31st October. The competition is divided by three categories: beginner, intermediate and advance level. The participants were judged by Prof Lee Jung Hee, Deputy Dean of Kyung Hee University Institute of International Education, Mr Cho Sung Bae from the Korean Embassy, Mr Park Jeano, Deputy Chairman of the Korea Society in Malaysia, Ms Kim Yong Yeoun, Head of Teacher at Korean School of Malaysia, Miss Park Bo Mi from Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency and Mr Mohd Fazlan Bin Yusoft, Deputy President of Korean Institute Alumni Graduate.
 
The competition was graced by The Deputy Chief of Mission Mr Yoon Chang Yul of the Republic of Korea, Professor Dr Azanam Shah Hashim, Deputy President (Academic & Technology) of UniKL and Mr Jin Jae Hoon, Country Manager of Korean Airline who is also one of the main sponsors of the event.
 
In his address to the participants and audiences, Minister Yoon Chang Yul expressed his admiration for the organizer and the participants," Malaysian and Korea share lots of history together. Besides just promoting Korean culture, I believe this competition goes to greater extent in developing ties between both countries, be it in education, social and economics. I wish to see this togetherness that we have shown today continues to grow to a greater extent between both countries."
 
Professor Dr Azanam Shah Hashim in his speech proclaims, "This competition serves as a good networking platform among Korean Language Learners. The Korean language now becomes the third language in UniKL. The hosting of this event proves of the good relationship between UniKL, The Korean Embassy and Korean Companies as well as South Korea and we hope this relationship continues to prosper in the future."
 
The strategic collaboration between UniKL and Korean Universities has been established since the year 2008. Currently, UniKL's active Korean University partners are Kyung Hee University, Sungkyungkwan University, Hanyang University, Ewha Women University, Semyung University, Dankook University, Konkuk University and Dongyang University.

UniKL MIIT also offers full-fledged Foundation Programme namely Foundation for Korean University Programme for aspiring students wishing to pursue tertiary education in Korean Universities.
 
UniKL is looking to foster greater collaboration by organising the Korean Language programme namely Korean Languange Intensive Programme (K-LIP). K-LIP is part of the initiatives to establish Korean Language Centre in Malaysia at UniKL MIIT. K-LIP will be the pioneer and first Malaysian institute that offers Korean Language Learning through both in classroom and online learning.
