KUALA LUMPUR, 14 May-Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) research team achieved a remarkable and outstanding result at the 27th International Invention & Innovation Exhibition (ITEX 2016), which was held recently at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 12-14 May 2016. The UniKL team won five gold medals and 1 silver medal to record a proud day for the university.

UniKL presented 6 projects in this annually held event and saw 5 projects awarded with gold medals with 1 project bagging home the silver medal. UniKL MIMET was awarded with 2 gold medals for the project titled Orbital Friction Stir Welding (FSW) led by Mr. Azman Ismail and Amphibian Vehicle-Cum- Rov Crawler For Land And Seabed led by Mr. Ahmad Makarimi Abdullah.

"So far, this is the best ever result we have achieved since our first participation in ITEX in 2007. The total number of gold medal winners for this year is much better compared to the previous years." said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hisham Hamid, Director of Centre for Research and Innovation (CoRI), UniKL.
Other projects which grabbed the gold medal are a project from UniKL MSI led by Mr. Ahmad Razlee Bin Ab Kadir (Deep Bore Plumber Wrench), a project from UniKL MFI, led by Mohamad Yazman Yaakub (D.I.S - Door Buck Installation System) and a project from UniKL IPROM led by Dr. Mohd Zaid Abu Yazid (Portable MQL Applicator).

A project from UniKL BMI entitled Development Exoskeleton Arm for Rehabilitation System, led by Mr. Abdul Malik bin Ali bagged a silver medal for UniKL. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darulihsan, Dean of UniKL IPROM said, "The recognition received is extremely satisfying. More importantly, it is great to be involved with these group of young and innovative researchers who have shown exceptional talent and efforts to achieve what they have achieved at ITEX 2016".

Gold medalist Mr. Azman Ismail added: "It is an honour to receive a gold medal for UniKL, but it is not something I am overly excited about. I'm trying to get myself in shape to contribute more to UniKL."

There were more than 1,000 projects contested in ITEX 2016 from various institute of higher learnings, research institutes, schools and private sectors from 22 countries like China, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iraq, Korea, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, Vietnam and Malaysia to name a few.
