PUTRAJAYA, 22 October 2016 – Universiti Kuala Lumpur celebrated its 6,105 graduating Class of 2016 in the 13th Convocation Ceremony held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre from 22 - 24 October. The annual tradition was graced by His Royal Highness Crown Prince of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah, the Chancellor of UniKL. Also in attendance were UniKL Pro Chancellors, top management, academic staffs and family members of graduates to celebrate the joyous occasion.
The 13th Convocation Ceremony saw 2,768 graduates receiving their Diploma scroll and 3,234 graduates receiving their degree. There were 73 postgraduate students receiving their Masters and PhD's meanwhile 30 graduates receiving their certificates. The13th convocation ceremony was made even more memorable as it witnessed the conferment of Honorary Doctorate to two iconic individuals in recognition to their outstanding achievements and crucial role in inspiring many.
The first recipient was His Excellency Professor Enrico Letta, former Prime Minister of Italy and currently the Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at Sciences Po in Paris and also the President of the Jacques Delors Institute. Prof Enrico Letta was a member of Italian Parliament and played a crucial part in Italy's role in the European Union.
UniKL also conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Management to Yang Berbahagia Datuk (Dr) Zamani Md Noor, former Director General of MARA. Datuk Zamani was instrumental in the development of Universiti Kuala Lumpur City Campus. He also played a vital role in bringing Perak College of Medicine (PCM) into UniKL which is known today as UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP).
The 2016 convocation ceremony also saw three top graduating students receiving their best students award, an acknowledgement for their outstanding results and contribution to UniKL. The Chancellors Award, the highest recognition of a student's achievement goes to Siti Sarah Shamsul Anuar, a Diploma Student of UniKL MIIT. The two Council Award recipients for Bachelor and Diploma respectively are Nurfaizha Asmaa' Hussin of UniKL IPROM and Ahmad Afiq Ahmad Zaki of UniKL MSI.
Meanwhile, in his royal address to the graduates, HRH Tengku Abdullah said, "In this age of gadgets and technology, access to information is readily available within your finger-tips at any time. The speed in which news and information travels nowadays are real time, as in we get news and updates as things are happening around the world. However, in our eagerness to share news and information, we sometimes overlook the most important aspect of a news, the truth. I hope everyone will take this issue very seriously, as we must be more wise and responsible when dealing with the freedom of sharing information which we all enjoy."
Besides the tradition filled ceremony, graduating students were entertained by top class artists and performances, a unique characteristic synonymous to UniKL convocations throughout the years. Graduates and parents were entertained by among others Ameng Spring, Mark Adam, Siti Nordiana, Ayda Jebat and many more. Visitors and family members were also greeted by a carnival like atmosphere complete with cultural performances, choir performances, exhibitions and sales booth, all led by UniKL students and staffs.
