Ampun Tuanku beribu-ribu ampun, sembah patik pohon diampun.
Ampun Tuanku beribu-ribu ampun, sembah patik pohon diampun. Izinkan patik meneruskan persembahan ucapan dalam Bahasa Inggeris.
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Siti Sarah binti Shamsul Anuar. I am a graduand of UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology ( UniKL MIIT) with a Diploma in Multimedia, and to be frank, it takes all the guts and courage to stand here and deliver the Valedictorian speech on behalf of UniKL Graduating Class of 2016.
I used to consider myself as a grain of sand, insignificant, easily thrown away every time the wind blows. There is a quote that says, "In every grain of sand, there is the story of the earth".
And this is my story.
When I was in school, I did not pay much attention to studies nor was I active in co-curricular activities. Growing up in a family of over achievers made it extremely hard for me. Having a University Professor as a father was even harder. I was a grain of sand, nothing remarkable. This attitude was later reflected by my SPM result. My grades were insignificant as compared to my other siblings!
However, choosing Universiti Kuala Lumpur to further my studies was the best decision I have ever made. It was a turning point in which I discovered that I might be a grain of sand, but hey, it's the grain of sands that makes a mountain!
Of course Uni life was difficult in the beginning. Just like the others, we had difficulties fitting in; of making new friends; facing the never-ending assignments, tests and projects; going through financial crisis especially at the end of the month, and so much more! I must say that we have worked really hard to get to this day. We made it!
My heartiest congratulations to all graduands!
On behalf of graduating class of 2016, I would like to express our appreciation to each and every party who has made this day possible to us.
Firstly, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to MARA, not just sponsoring us throughout our studies, but also for creating a platform for us to build our characters through education, training, research, entrepreneurship and community service. I have just started doing my Bachelor's Degree of IT in Software Engineering, also in UniKL MIIT and I hope that I can still participate in a lot of programmes that are organised by MARA, UniKL and other organisations.
Thank you Universiti Kuala Lumpur for inculcating shared values such as Commitment, Integrity, Teamwork, Innovativeness and Excellence. Also, UniKL's effort in promoting entrepreneurship in the university has produced quite a number of prospective young entrepreneurs in this hall today.
Thank you to all our competent and professional lecturers of UniKL. The lecturers are not just knowledgeable and skilful in their fields, but they are also very supportive and concerned with the students' academic and involvements in campus. Dear lecturers, you are not just a workforce of UniKL, but you are an inspiration to many students who are graduating today. Thank you for your dedication, guidance and strong support.
And of course, I'm saving the best part for last……
To my Ummi, Puan Masurah binti Jamil and Abah, Prof. Dr. Shamsul Anuar bin Mokhtar, thank you for showering me with your strength, love and guidance for the past 21 years. There are not enough words to describe how thankful I am to both of you. But if my thoughts of you were to become grains of sand, I would have made you an island!
Abah, thank you for introducing UniKL to me and for convincing me to choose this remarkable university as a place to further my studies after SPM!
Fellow graduands,
Our diploma and degree scroll does not merely indicate our hard work and sacrifice; it also indicates prayers and moral support from our family members, friends and lecturers. We could not have made it without them. Thus, please stand up, and join me in giving a round of applause to our parents, family members, close friends and lecturers who are celebrating our graduation today!
My fellow graduands,
In striving for excellence, we have to be true to ourselves. Don't be too obsessed in comparing yourself with others because you'll never be grateful with your own achievement. You just need to challenge and strive to be the best version of yourself. You might be a grain of sand, but remember, it can form a mountain or even an island!
What's important is that, we should always be honest in everything we do. If we are ambitious and we want to achieve something, we should be ready to work hard for it. We should not cheat to achieve success. We should not plagiarise other people's work and claim that it is ours.
More importantly, as graduates of UniKL, we should aspire to become someone who benefits others. As the Messenger of Allah ( peace be upon him ) said, "The best of people are those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind".
Therefore, we should always try to help others with our knowledge. We should not just think of ourselves. We should use the knowledge and skills that we have gained in UniKL for the benefit of our community, society and our beloved country, Malaysia.
And, when we are successful, always remain humble and remember our roots. "Imitate the rice stalk. The more grains it bears, the lower it bows". Never look down on people. Instead, we should always be gracious towards others and always be grateful to Allah for everything He has lent us.
Honourable Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Graduating Class of 2016 on our graduation. This is not the end of our battle, but it's a start of many more to come. Stay focused, stay motivated and May Allah ease our journey in the future, insya Allah.
Before I end this speech, I would like to deliver a couple of Malay pantuns to all my fellow graduands:
Padi segemal kepuk di hulu,
Sirih di hilir merekap junjungan;
Kepalang duduk menuntut ilmu,
Pasir sebutir jadikan intan.
Air melurut ke tepian mandi,
Kembang berseri bunga senduduk;
Elok diturut resmi padi,
Semakin berisi semakin tunduk.
Buah cempedak bentuknya bujur,
Sangat disukai oleh semua;
Jika kita bersikap jujur,
Hidup kita dipandang mulia.
Sekian, wabillahi taufiq wal hidayah, assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
