This programme will produce graduates who are experts in research skills, design, planning, manufacturing and the repair of "tool and die" equipment and products including the moulds used in the manufacturing sector. Almost all industrial products which have to be produced in large quantities need to utilize the molding or equipment in the process of production. To produce these equipment or mould requires highly skilled capabilities. The use of advanced computer aided technology plays an important role in the nation's "tool & die" industry. Other than technical knowledge, students will also be taught management and administrative modules. The duration of the programme is 4 years with one semesters of industrial training.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) 

  1. To produce graduates knowledgeable, competent and innovative and able to contribute towards the human capital in tool and die and related industries. 
  2. To produce graduates who have effective leadership and teamwork skills and interpersonal communication skills to support their roles in industry. 
  3. To produce graduates  committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous professional development 
  4. To produce graduates who practice professionalism taking into consideration ethical, social and environmental issues. 
  5. To produce graduates capable of embarking on business and technopreneurial activities in tool and die as well as related industries 


Programme Learning Outcomes 

  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and tool and die engineering to the defined and applied engineering procedures, processes, systems or methodologies 
  2. Identify, formulate, research literature and solve broadly-defined engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using analytical tools appropriate tool and die engineering discipline. 
  3. Design solutions for broadly-defined tool and die engineering problems and contribute to the design of systems, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations. 
  4. Conduct investigations of broadly-defined tool and die engineering problems; locate, search and select relevant data from codes, data bases and literature, design and conduct experiments to provide valid conclusion. 
  5. Select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering tools, including prediction and modeling, to broadly-defined tool and die engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations. 
  6. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse technical teams. 
  7. Communicate effectively on broadly defined engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions. 
  8. Demonstrate understanding of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities and norms of engineering technology practice. 
  9. Recognize and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering technology practice. 
  10. Provide explanations on the impact of engineering solutions in a societal context and demonstrate knowledge of and the need for sustainable development. 
  11. Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of management, business practices, and technopreneurial competencies.

Career Path


Graduates from this field will have excellent oppurtunities to work as experts in the production of "tool & die" or in industries which utilize moulds such as in the automotive and electronics industries.
